17-7 PH is a precipitation-hardened stainless steel that is well suited for aerospace and other applications requiring high strength and good corrosion resistance and formability. Type 17-7PH is a Chromium-Nickel-Aluminum, austenitic stainless steel. It is the most formable of all PH grades and has the highest strength and hardness. It is less magnetic than other PH grades and offers minimal distortion upon heat treatment. This material maintains its valuable properties at temperatures up to 800° F (427° C).

Alloys 309 and 309S are austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steels that are often used for higher temperature applications. Due to their high chromium and nickel content, Alloys 309 and 309S are highly corrosion resistant, have outstanding resistance to oxidation, and excellent heat resistance while providing good strength at room and elevated temperatures. The only significant difference between 309 and 309S is the carbon content. Alloy 309S has a much less carbon composition which minimizes carbide precipitation and improves weldability.

Its unique structure provides increased toughness and better corrosion resistance than its predecessor, 17-4 PH. Both inclusion control and a minimized amount of delta ferrite as compared to 17-4 stainless steel contribute to the greater toughness of 15-5. The alloy is further strengthened by a low temperature heat treatment which precipitates a copper containing phase in the alloy. 15-5 PH is able to meet the stringent mechanical properties required in the aerospace and nuclear industries.

Alloy 330 is an austenitic, nickel-chromium-iron-silicon alloy that has outstanding resistance to oxidation and carburization up to 2200°F with high strength. The excellent resistance to oxidation and carburization is provided by the high nickel and chromium content of the alloy, further enhanced by its silicon content. Alloy 330’s ultra high nickel content of 34 to 37% also provides high resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking and embrittlement from the precipitation of sigma phase in most furnace atmospheres. Alloy 330 also has a low coefficient of expansion, excellent ductility, and high strength.
